Grieving the Mother I never had.

I was just reading a post on The Imperfect Mum from a reader who had a toxic relationship with her mother. One of the other readers suggested she see a therapist so that she could grieve the relationship that she never got to have with her mother. It got me thinking. I’ve always associated grieving with the loss of an actual person, when someone dies. It never really occurred to me to grieve the idea of something. But it makes sense, doesn’t it? Just acknowledging the empty space where something ought to have been….. I wrote this post five years...

You’ll never guess……we’re moving a-bloody-gain.

For those of you who read my last post this post will make more sense. Due to an unexpected health hiccup in our plans we have decided to move back to the big smoke on a permanent basis, where city policing is significantly different from regional policing and a position can be found for Mr Point Five that is more suited for him and our family at this time. So after leaving Perth straight after his academy graduation in August 2007; six towns, eight houses and 10 years later, we are finally moving back “home”. G Man who is finishing year 4 this...

The light at the end of the tunnel…

Some of you may have noticed, others may not, but there has been a definite drought in my blogosphere. Again, some of you may have picked up on the occasional slip of the tongue, others may not, but Mr Point Five has been ill, at some points quite desperately, over the past 6 months. I haven’t wanted to put it all out there on here, as the questions from concerned town-folk were enough to spiral me around the rim of depression with no good news to report for months on end. I became a hermit, stopped attending casual get togethers,...

2016 – its a wrap.

2016 has been a mixed bag for our family; some hits and some misses but we are steadily putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward together. Mr Point Five has been off with hand surgery and other worries for part of this year, so not the best year for him as he hates being on the sidelines and much prefers to be in the thick of his policing so to speak. 2017 is going to be a better year for him professionally I hope. The boys have had a wonderful year at school; they are so...

Keeping up with the Jones’

One of the big downsides to being a country Police Family and moving all the freaking time is the fact that we don’t just “fit in” to every new town. It takes time to get to know people and for them to know you. It takes time for them to work out if you are joking or if you are just really rude and missed the sarcasm 😉 We don’t have traditions. I mean, we do to a certain extent; I try really hard to maintain some sort of continuum, but when the Christmas tree has been in a...

Missing in Action: an explanation.

First it was one, then two and now three. Three emails/messages in the past month from readers wanting to know if I’m OK because they had noticed a change in my blog/presence since we have moved to our new town. I know I have been a little slack quiet in the blogging department and I do try to keep my facebook page ticking over and interactive so you are updated with our news. My blog is basically an extension of a facebook status; when my updates become too lengthy for facebook, I pop them over onto the blog.  My blog posts...

aka Lisa

Even before we moved to our little town, people knew who I was. Or more correctly, they knew who my husband was. We had driven 7 hours with a cat and two children and were parked out the front of the wrong hotel in town (there were two to choose from, both with the word Murchison in their names and for the life of me I couldn’t remember which I had booked 6 weeks ago), peering into the window of the one which was closed. A local drove past and stopped in the main drag and said, you must be...

The Past Few Months…

See the picture above? I took it standing at my front door and in it you can see EVERYWHERE I have been for the past eleven weeks. (apart from here and here on three day trips) Seriously, I have not been more than 250m from my front door in eleven weeks. School, work, the park, the town deli/post office and the pub on a Friday night. It is doing my head in. I have not been to anyones house for a cuppa nor for an evening stroll. I have not found my bestie here. I have not been in...

A mini ranty pants – then as you were.

Its a funny thing, this decision to blog and put parts of your life out on the public arena. I started off as a humour inspired blog, with this post being my first, nearly four years ago. Then along the way, thanks to certain people IRL who read here who didn’t “get” my humour and crucified me personally for the cheeky way I view my marriage and motherhood, I kinda lost my funny mojo and those posts dwindled away. Sometimes I will relive a topic that tickled my funnybone and blog it, but its not often. I was at a loose...

Our Afternoon at Lake Nallan and Milly Soak

Here are some pics from our second day trip this afternoon. Milly Soak is about 20km up and 5km off the highway from town. If you scroll down, you can read about it 🙂   Just a few flies about. Luckily none up the nose today 🙂 There are about 5 large rock arrows directing you towards the old grave site for when the path peters off a bit… Below are the three original graves; over 120 years old, victims of the typhoid outbreak in town. Only about 1km up on the other side of highway is Lake Nallan...
