A branch from my Family Tree

I love local history. Mr Point Five is fascinated with Ancient History and can watch hours of Roman/Medieval documentaries, but me, as soon as we moved here I was instantly into the Shire Office to suss out our towns past. I wanted to know how our town came to be and see the faces of the people who built it with their bare hands. I love seeing the old homes/businesses that are still standing and I LOVE living in one of the original town historical buildings which is over 120 years old. I love wandering around our house and...

Five towns in Seven years.

When people first find out my husband is a police officer of of the first questions they generally ask is Ohhhhh, what’s that like?? To be honest I don’t exactly know how to answer them. I don’t know what they want to hear. Stories about handcuffs and drug deals gone bad? We have only ever lived country since Mr Point Five joined up; we have never lived in the city as a police couple. My only experience of being a his Wife was as a country coppers wife as we got married at our first posting 1700km away from...

Five things about me – Shhhhhh

I have been tagged by the lovely Jane from Almost Jane to tell you five things about myself that you prolly don’t already know yet. They’re not a secret, I don’t have any of those, they just haven’t come up in one of our conversations yet OK, so here goes. 1. I have a University degree. A Bachelor of Arts in Politics. I never went to my graduation. I had the paperwork framed and it sat on my toilet cistern for many years until it fell off with a violent flush and shattered the glass. It eventually got thrown out...

TP5K – On Board the Blog Tour

So I have been dobbed in by Bruce the Almighty (aka my blogger hubby Ray to my Debra from everybody loves Raymond)  from Big Family Little Income to get on board this Blog Tour of sorts. The idea is each blogger answers the same four questions about themselves and their page and then introduces another three of their fave bloggers who then do it and you get introduced to a whole new lot of lovely people who may or may not tickle your fancy. Sort of like a chain letter with no hinky penalties for not following along. Or maybe...

The Black Dog or the Yellow Lab – How can you tell??

So you may have noticed that my blog posts have been few and far between lately. I am going to be honest – I have kinda lost my mo-jo and its been really hard to pick exactly when it happened….. I used to blog “funny” but lately I just cant seem to tickle my humour bone to save myself. Lately most of my posts are introspective or ranty and whilst I know you all love a good ranty-pants post, I would love to get back to my core blog basic which was of the humorous parent/marriage genre. I THINK...

Happy Easter Shmeaster

Despite the honour and privilege of being married to a Boy in Blue, the pain-in-the-arse times are definitely all the public holidays and special occasions during the year that I am left stagging it with the kids.  Sadly, our emergency/shift workers etc. always work when others are out having fun; where there is alcohol and car travel involved, it is generally a really busy time for our boys. Most public holidays Mr Point Five does 12 hour plus shifts, and over a festive period such as the four day Easter “holiday” we hardly even see him.  It wouldn’t be so bad if...

Woe-Is-Me

So I was surfing facebook this morning and a status by Kerri Sackville  popped into my feed. “Research question for an article I’m writing: If someone wants to be your friend but you don’t wish to pursue the friendship, do you feel a bit guilty? Do you say ‘no thanks’ or do the whole ‘sure, let’s catch up’ and then never follow up thing????“ See their answers #8230; All of a sudden I felt like crying. THIS was what was happening to me, I was sure of it. We moved to this town five months ago and yesterday I was...

For Sale; wedding dress, worn once by mistake.

SO by now most of you would have cottoned on to the fact that I was married before Mr Point Five came along. In fact I was still married WHEN he came along 😉 Nothing naughty going on; I had been separated for just over six months before we met but had to wait until the 12 month mark to apply for a divorce. I have done a previous post about my first day being physically single as part of a linky blog, entitled First Day which kind of tells you how we separated, but I thought to write about...

If Peter Pan was a Mother…..

Before I was a mother I used to eat chocolate for breakfast chased down with three coffees. I used to have a cleaning lady because hubby and I both worked full time and we could afford it. Before I had kids I never used to take pride in my car – I prided myself on the fact I could spend an impromptu night at a friends and have everything I needed already with me. Now I am a Mother, with being grown-up a vital requisition, I am sometimes afraid I am not good enough, not worthy of being a parent....

Losing my Tradition

As the Australia Day long weekend finishes, I am thinking that one of the things I miss most about moving house all the time , is not having any traditions anymore. It really does suck.   When I was a little girl, we lived in the same house until I was thirteen and my parents split up. Even though it all changed that year, I have such beautiful and fond memories of our family traditions until then.   Our Christmas tree that we had selected fresh each year always stood in the same spot. We celebrated Christmas with the same people...
