Losing my Tradition

As the Australia Day long weekend finishes, I am thinking that one of the things I miss most about moving house all the time , is not having any traditions anymore. It really does suck.   When I was a little girl, we lived in the same house until I was thirteen and my parents split up. Even though it all changed that year, I have such beautiful and fond memories of our family traditions until then.   Our Christmas tree that we had selected fresh each year always stood in the same spot. We celebrated Christmas with the same people...

Moving – not just houses but towns. All. The. Time.

So, as you know we move house. A lot. In fact, this is our 5th move and 4th new town in just over six years. This move was perhaps our best one for us personally as a couple, in that we only fought a handful of times and came out the other end still talking to each other with a wry smile Only once did Mr Point Five say ” I HATE moving with you” which I consider to be a win and a sign that I am improving on my stress levels of moving On the flip side...

Behind the scenes – Don’t let comparison steal your joy.

Recently I saw some blog posts from some absolutely gorgeous bloggers (not naming names) showing off parts of their houses that I would never dream of showing you in full of my house. There were kitchens, laundry’s, the insides of their FRIDGES FFS!! They were so embarrassed to show them, as in “please forgive my beautiful mess” but guess what?? They were perfect. No mess in sight. Well, nothing that I would call mess. You could hear me fake gagging as I read the posts, rolling my eyes and thinking Bitch,  Puh-LEASE!!   Now I could feel bad and...

Life behind the Thin Blue Line – a novella :)

I think the first time I had a glimmer of what I was getting in to was about six months after Mr Point Five and I had met. He had just started at the academy and I had just handed my driver’s licence in for three months as I had accumulated one point too many. Aherm. It was the first Saturday afterwards and I grabbed my keys to duck down to our local Coles which were literally 200m at the bottom of our street.  Hubby looked at me, dumbstruck. What on earth do you think you are doing? he asked. I explained...

You can buy an education, but you can’t buy class.

The internet should have a “warning” label on it before you log on. Enter at your own risk and only those who have thick skin shall come away unscathed.   As I am typing today, I find that I am second guessing myself a little more than I would have this time last week. After a certain bullyish “incident” I am wondering who is reading what I am writing and if my conversational tone that I have been proud of until today is “good enough”. I am asking myself, is that comma in the right spot and does that...

A disappointing week….

Two things have been bothering me this week, weighing on my mind….. The first one is THIS ARTICLE.  In a nutshell – a Reverend finds a diamond and gold bracelet, does the right thing and hands it into the police. The police hold it for two months and when it isn’t reported missing, it gets handed over to the Reverend as his rightful property. The Reverend then uses the stamps on the bracelet to find out who the bracelet “belongs” to and discovers the owners are well known Perth Restaurateurs. He comes to them and offers them the bracelet...

Why I gave up the bubbles…..

NB: Before I write this, I want you to know I understand the seriousness of being an alcoholic. I am not belittling it or underestimating it. I also want to state that I am not, nor ever have been an alcoholic. I am not in denial. That’s a river in Egypt, don’t you know.   So this year I turn 40. This means that I have been of legal drinking age for 22 years. Out of those 22 years I worked in hospitality for 15 of them. Out of those 15 years I worked 5 days a week, 48...

If love is blind, marriage is certainly an eye-opener!

Marriage can be effing hard some days. The past few months or so, Mr Point Five and I have been butting heads. A LOT. Nothing major, just niggles all over the shop. A constant pea in our bed, if you will. I think it mostly has to do with stress, and it takes its toll. There are three major ones for us: First – Hubby has applied for a promotion for work and with a few stages to go through and each stage being upwards of six weeks, it is a long and drawn out process. What we do,...

Today I left my Husband….

I left Mr Point Five today. For an hour. If I hadn’t, I would have picked the fight from hell and he didn’t deserve that. I left an hour early for school pick up and sat in the car. I had a magazine to read, one that I hadn’t managed to do more than skim through the headlines for the past two months, but to be honest I just sat there. I sat with the windows down and breathed in the sunshine and the gum trees. I gazed at the wisps of clouds in the sky and watched the branches dance in the light...
