Ranty Pants post – R Rated; R for profanity and R for Racist.
So, Racism seems to be the PC flavour of the month right now, the bandwagon to be on.
Lets hop on for a ride shall we??
I have a question that has been festering for a while…..
Can someone please explain this to me in very small words so I can understand?
Above are The Voice judges.
You have Seal, Delta, one of the boys from Good Charlotte and Ricky Martin.
A black man, a blonde bombshell, a cool rock star and a handsome (gay, but shhhh, lets not call attention to that lest we assume homophobia) crooner.
(And yes, I can describe Seal as a BLACK man, Whoopi did on The View so its totally cool.)
The picture below features people dressing up to look like these judges for a bit of a lark.
HOW the fuck in Zeus’s BUTTHOLE is this racist???
Now before you all leap down my throat and get ball PC on me, lets look up the word RACISM shall we??
rac·ism
n.
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
rac
ist adj. & n.

The picture above looked to me like four people having a lark and dressing up for a bit of a giggle. It stands to reason that if you are going to dress up like Seal, you will need to be BLACK.
Its his skin colour people.
No prejudice was intended and no discrimination was given. I am pretty positive that the person dressed as Seal here does NOT think he is superior because of his white skin colour, this being the reason he “disrespectfully” flaunted his black polish.
Comedian Aamer Rahman publicly humiliated Delta when she tweeted this image by saying she was racist….. “You should understand that normalising the casual mockery of people of colour through accepted mainstream culture – structurally preserving a white majority’s right to have fun at someone else’s expense – is a key building block in maintaining the hierarchy of racism. It’s naive to write off this kind of seemingly banal, pervasive everyday behaviour as if it somehow has no connection to people ultimately accepting actual systemic violence like the NT Intervention, the War on Terror, our refugee policy, and Australia’s straight up unwillingness to question our role in the wholesale dispossession of Aboriginal people.”.
O.M.F.G.
Where was the mockery? Where was the expense that being had? How is this maintaining a hierarchy of racism? Dressing up with a bit of boot polish is somehow contributing to the War on Terror and the oppression of the Aboriginal people of Australia??
In the words of Pauline Hanson – please explain???
If I wanted to go to a party dressed up as Dolly Parton and put two balloons down my top and buttoned up a pink cardy, am I being sexist? No – Dolly is female with large breasts.
If I wanted to dress up as Raggedy Anne and donned an orange wig, am I being disrespectful of Rangas? Oh crap, am I allowed to call them Rangas?? Is that racist? Am I better than a red headed person because I don’t have red hair and have to add it for a dress-up party?
I am confused. Let me go and have a becks and a lie down.
Can I even dress up as a black person for a party?
Obviously the PC Police say no, not if my skin colour is white.
(whispers) Its RACIST. And Im so effing cool right now, on the anti-racism wagon……
Fuck me people – it was a group of four people dressing up to look like another group of four people.
One of them was black.
Get over it.
There are REAL racist things being done and said to get your knickers in a twist over.
Go find them. And leave Delta alone.
As you were.
Yeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss!!! The racist term is flung around so much these days. I bite my tongue on a regular basis. Hey, guess what? Im white and Im proud of it! I dont expect special treatment because of it. Does it make me racist that I own my heritage because Im not a ‘minority’? It seems so un-PC to be a proud white person.
I have to admit I was a bit thrown about how all of THAT could blow up out of THAT picture. I know I can be a bit generous with benefit of the doubt, but how on earth did anyone come to the conclusion that those guys were intending to be racist? Did Seal ever make a statement? I would be keen to hear his take on it. xx
Great piece Lisa. I can’t stand PC. I can’t stand that this govt wants to legislate against people offending one another. This whole era of not being able to crack a joke just in case someone out there might be hurt by it. But it is ok to publicly shame and humiliate fat people on the Biggest Loser.
Surely that guy dressed as a women with that ugly wig is being a misogynist and should be strung up somewhere with Tony Abbott. And the Ricky impersonator… is he mincing? OMG! The HOMOPHOBE!
Oh thanks – its been eating at me for a while now. So glad there are people who agree with me and arent hopping on the PC bandwagon. Cheers for reading 🙂
So would I – I did a bit of snooping on the net but couldnt find anything on his opinion? Im sure if he was offended we would have heard about it.
Thanks for stopping by beautiful. xxx
Thanks for stopping by Bec – I think the PC bandwagon should be shunted off the road. Its impossible to have an opinion these days without offending someone isn’t it?
The PC bandwagon is there so bored, small minded people can shout “I’m so offended!!!” every time something makes them feel awkward. Especially if it’s on social media. Oooooooooooover it. All the Delta haters just wanted another reason to slag her off on twitter and facebook.
Great ranty pants post. Well written, balanced, thoughtful. I don’t see it. I see mocking a group of four celebs and without having any context (don’t watch the show or know the people) but don’t see the racism, overt or implied. Now, we’re only seeing the picture/image, not the “full picture” and any accompanying text, tweets, posts etc. Maybe there is more to the story? But racism has purpose (intentional or not) – purpose to demean, promote stereotypes, assume superiority, and so on and I don’t get any of that from the picture. It’s a goofy dress up, and well done too.
But hold up there peeps… don’t be so quick to throw out PC – we all deserve respect in both deeds and words. Words do hurt, and perpetuate stereotypes. PC = respect for all regardless of race, ability, origin, sexual orientation etc etc etc and I’m good with that. Words do make a difference especially when our little ones are following our every move as they learn how to get on in the world. The R word in our house is Respect rather than another that gets thrown around the schools too much: ret@rd. I’m not even comfortable typing it. We have a daughter who has Down syndrome and how do you thinks she feels when she people use that word around her? At 17 she is pretty aware and articulate and she wants to know why people use that word to say something is too stupid to live and then look to her. Yup, it’s been tossed around. So think about politically correct – it benefits all of us.
Very True FunMum – I am all about being PC when its called for and is appropriate and isn’t a knee jerk reaction to some idiot with a complex who voices an opinion over a sensitive subject. Your situation is a perfect example of when we definitely should be PC and speak with our hearts.
Thanks for stopping by. xxx
Yep – poor Delta – I really did feel sorry for the girl this time 🙂
