I really struggle with this, and hate that a person needs to have a ‘job’.
I’m a SAHM to two small kids. My boy has just turned two. My little girl is 4 and a half months (20 month age gap). I’m only 23. I put my uni degree on hold when I had my boy, until I could work out changing to a uni that had the option of external studies, as we moved to a regional town just before our little boy’s first bday. Got that all sorted so now my days consist of all the normal SAHM stuff of house and kids, dealing with everything around a shift-working husband (we are also a thin blue line family), and part-time studies as well. Our nearest family is 2 and a half hours drive away. We shuffled our budget to put Mr 2 in child care one day a week so I can have one “easier” day to hopefully get study stuff done (HA!!! That seems to be a wasted plan atm).
When we catch up with friends and family they all ask me, “So, what do you do with your time these days?” I rattle off the above. The response, in an impatient tone as they seem to think I’ve misunderstood their question, “Yes, but what do you DO with your TIME? Don’t you have hobbies? How long is it going to take to get your degree now? Is it even worth it? Are you ever even going to go to work ANYWHERE at all?”
This is where I see red, bite my tongue, and hubby jumps in to change the subject as quickly as he can.
haha! yeah, that’s what I do too. The Facebook bit.
Clever answer and me too.
