Day trip to Walga Rock and my Backyard
Our Mothers Day plans were to go to Walga Rock. Mr Point Five had the day off, it was 24C, not a cloud to be seen or a breeze to be felt.
We are all packed ready for a picnic out bush. Mr Point Five calls the neighbouring station to say he will be out on his FIRST family day since we moved to town, and that he would have the satellite phone if they needed to contact him. They pick up the phone and say “Hey, we were just about to call you; we need you for a recall down here ASAP”.
FARK!!!! Repeat of Christmas Day.
Remember in this post, I said the most essential quality a police spouse can have is adaptability? Yes. Well. Just breathe.
So the weekend just gone we had my Dad up and we decided once again to drive out to Walga Rock. It was cold and the wind was really buffeting. It wasn’t raining however so that’s something and it was a good way to get out of the house with visitors. Got a bit freaky up top of the rock with the kids and the wind though.
Here are some of my piccies 🙂
Climbing up to the top was well worth it.
The view was honestly incredible – imagine a bright blue sunny day!
A mini Ayers Rock, or Uluru if you will 🙂
I wasn’t game enough to take the picnic basket up the top so after we climbed down we drove around to the Eastern side out of the wind and had our lunch on a low lying rock platform.
So there was our day at Walga Rock.
The next day Dad and I went up to the top of Lookout Hill, about a kilometre from our back door. We didn’t take the kids as it was cold and threatening rain. Plus we thought it might be a disappointment from their “big rock” trip the day before.
This is our town looking west from Lookout Hill. Yep. It fits into a single photo.
This is the view to the south….
This is the view to the east….
And this is the view North.
Pretty desolate, isolated and flat eh? Nothing but the desert for miles and miles. Again, these pics would be stunning with a blue sky backdrop.
Have you been to Walga Rock? Ayers Rock? Been to outback WA?? What did you think? Do you like my backyard? 😉
Gorgeous pics! Geez you’ve made me miss living out west (NSW).

Thanks for the read and comment 🙂 As isolating and harsh as she is, the outback really is magnificent in her own majestic way isnt she?
So true. I’ve missed it every day of the last seven years since I left.
I think unless you do experience it, you can’t really appreciate it.
Loving your blog by the way. You totally give good blog 🙂

I had to Google where Walga Rock was and discovered it was outside Cue. I have been to Cue as young girl but don’t remember Walga Rock, I do remember Wave Rock though.
